SurgeryTulare District Hospital’s Surgical Services Department includes the Ambulatory Care Unit, Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and Central Processing. The Surgical Service provides pre-admission assessment; operative and other invasive procedures (inpatient and outpatient ); immediate postoperative and post procedure care on a 24-hour basis; maintenance, sterilization and monitoring of instruments and equipment for the Surgery Service and other Patient Care Units. The patient’s physical, psychological and social needs are assessed initially by the ACU Preassessment Nurse, and reassessed by nursing staff in the Ambulatory Care Unit (located in the hospital's South Wing) prior to any operative procedure. This unit's staff also provides the admission process and care for patients scheduled for outpatient diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy and EKG . Patients scheduled for surgery are reassessed in the OR by nursing staff. The three operating rooms provide a wide range of surgical procedures, including cardiac pacemaker, general, gynecology/obstetrics, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, orthopedic, otorhinolaryngology, podiatry, vascular and urology. The Postanesthesia Care Unit provides care for patients immediately following operative procedures. Central Processing is a support unit for the Surgery Service and all Patient Care Units, maintaining instruments, equipment and emergency carts. All staff members of the Surgical Services Department are highly trained, and the Hospital provides state-of-the-art equipment for patient care.
