Heart and Vascular Diagnosis
(
Cardiology Diagnostic Services)

Tulare District Hospital opened its state of the art Cath Lab in August of 2004, offering the latest technology in the treatment of clogged blood vessels and cardiac diagnostics.

Doctors can use the lab to diagnose blocked arteries and veins throughout the body. The modern equipment allows doctors to test for peripheral vascular disease as well as coronary artery disease.

Doctors can also install stents in arteries, but not in arteries in the heart. The stent is left in the artery after the angioplasty is done where a balloon is used to push back the plaque causing the blockage. The stent helps keep the artery open.

The lab is a $1.5 million investment by the hospital. The hospital Foundation chipped in with $420,000 to help purchase the equipment. The Toshiba Infinix Dual Plane Angiography comes with two arms, one for cardiac and the other for vascular testing. Everything is recorded by computer. Results are immediate as the doctor and lab technicians are able to see everything on monitors.

Doctors are also able to use the lab to install heart pacemakers in patients.
