Birthplace

Tulare District Hospital has combined the latest advances in medical technology with the comfort and convenience of a private room for giving birth.

Mothers will give birth in a specially designed birthing room. Modern, state of the art equipment is brought into the room at the time of delivery, making the delivery as safe as possible.

For the expectant mother:

• Receive early prenatal care from one of our highly-skilled obstetricians.
• Attend one of the many Shared Childbirth classes from our Community Education Department (685-3404).
• Be pre-admitted to the hospital and discuss the hospital cost and discount programs available with one of our patient representatives (685-3447)
• Take a tour of the Birthplace (685-3491)

Nursing Care
All nurses at the Birthplace are specialty trained, skilled in all aspects of the birth process to care for both mother and baby. Nurses in the Birthplace average between 10 and 15 years experience each.  Many of them are nationally certified with specialty certifications in either Fetal Monitoring and/or Inpatient Obstetrics.

And….
You may have two coaches with you in your room for support during your labor and birth (a coach may be your husband, friend or relative).

There is even a sleep chair, a specially-designed chair that allows for your coach to catch a nap, in the room.

The hospital also offers a newly updated nursery that provides the best care possible.  All of our nurses have passed the American Heart Association/American Academy of Pediatrics class on newborn resuscitation.  Our nurses have also received additional training from Children's Hospital of Central California (formerly Valley Children's Hospital).

The hospital has also installed an infant monitoring system to ensure that no baby will leave the hospital without his or her parents.
