Asthma Coalition

Our Mission Statement: To Improve Health and Community Awareness Related to Asthma.

We are a diverse group of health professionals and community members dedicated to providing asthma education and advocacy efforts to improve environmental factors that effect school-aged children where they live, learn, and play. Our members include medical doctors, educators, insurance representatives, community members, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, school officials, pharmaceutical representatives, pharmacists, social workers, and parents.

In 2002, the Tulare County Asthma Coalition received a Community Action to Fight Asthma grant from The California Endowment to institute activities in Tulare County to reduce indoor and outdoor triggers of asthma in school-aged children.

What is Asthma?
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that decreases the flow of air into and out of the lungs.

With asthma the airways of the lung become inflamed, the muscles around the airways tighten, and the lungs produce more mucus.
Asthma can be controlled through education, asthma management skills, and appropriate medications.
